- Choose your wedding party and wedding attire. Be considerate
of family and friendships, as well as any personal or financial restrictions
your attendants may have.
- Create a gift registry. This will help your guests select wedding
gifts that you will appreciate, and ensure that you will not receive
duplicates. To avoid awkward situations, be sure to include items that
cover a wide range of prices, and select more items than the number of invited guests.
- Book your photographer, videographer, florist, and music provider.
Look at samples. Listen to DJs or bands. Compare prices and styles. Ask
the advice of recently married friends, but don't forget to rely the
experience of your wedding planner for the best possible choices.
- Order your invitations. Be sure the style reflects your
personality and simply communicates the important information about
the celebration. Check and double-check your proof, so there are no
errors in spelling, time, and place.
- Order thank you cards. Take care of thank you cards at the same
time you order your invitations to ensure that you don't forget them later
on. Some printers offer discounts if both printed pieces are ordered at the
same time.
- Create a good map. Make sure it is well thought-out and
extremely clear. If you list distances between the ceremony and the
reception, ask someone else to drive the route and double-check for accuracy.
- Hold blocks of hotel rooms for out-of-town guests. Estimate how
many guests may need overnight accommodations. Check rates and availability
at one or two convenient hotels, and be sure to include this information in
your invitation packet.
- Reserve a venue for your rehearsal dinner. Consider whether or
not you want to host a post-wedding brunch or a farewell party. Call on
your wedding planner for creative ideas that will make everyone feel at home.
- Mail your invitations one or two months before your event. Be sure
to allow time for guests to make travel arrangements, and respond in a
timely fashion.
Several Weeks (or a month) before your event:
- Keep track of your wedding replies. Use your computer to keep
an up-to-date list of who is coming and who is not, and update the list
as the RSVPs arrive.
- Keep in touch with your wedding planner. Notify him or her of
any changes that you foresee.
- Decide on gifts for attendants. Choose an item that will always
be a reminder of their special connection to you.
- Consider welcoming gifts for out-of-town guests. Perhaps you want to leave a small gift basket in their hotel room,
or create a packet of information about area attractions to make them feel at home. The concierge at Union Station is a great
source of ideas for entertaining guests in Music City.
- Create place cards. Enlist the help of a calligrapher, or ask
your printer for assistance with this special job.
- Confirm details with photographer, musicians, and florist. A simple
phone call or visit will give you piece of mind, and ensure that no details
fall through the cracks.
Several Days (or a week) before your event:
- Pack for your honeymoon well in advance of the day. Take time to
think about what you may need, including money, plane tickets, and perhaps
your passport. Don't forget to bring your luggage with you to the wedding!
- Stay in touch with your planner. Now's not the time to drop the ball!
- Get plenty of rest. Get a facial or massage, or do whatever it takes to
relax. The next few days will fly by and you want to look your best.
- Smile! All of your hard work and planning is about to pay off and
soon the wedding of your dreams will become a reality. It's time to relax
and enjoy yourself!
